You are warmly invited to come to Berlin and Wittenberg from 24 – 28 May 2017.

Citizens of many countries need a visa to come to Germany for Kirchentag. This is a general overview of the visa application process if you want to come.

Before you start: International Contacts

Our international contacts website is a great resource for you. You may find that there is a Kirchentag representative in your country. This person will be happy to assist you and to provide you with further information regarding Kirchentag. They may even be able to connect you with a group of people to travel to and attend Kirchentag with.

Visa Application

Please contact the German embassy or consulate general in your country. Check the Website of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more Information.

When contacting the consulate or embassy, make sure to ask which documents are required for your application. You should also make an appointment to hand in these documents, as well as complete an interview explaining the reasons you wish to travel to Germany.

In most cases appointments can be made up to three months before your travel date. It can also take several weeks to process your visa. To increase your chances of being able to come you should schedule your appointment to take place anytime between the beginning of February and beginning of April 2017.

Please keep in mind that the German consulate ultimately will decide whether or not your application will be accepted.

Registration Procedure

All participants have the option of registering over the online service "My Kirchentag". "My Kirchentag" registration forms are both in English (on this part of the website) and German (on the German website). Both individual participants and groups can register using the forms in three easy steps.

  • Before you can begin your registration, you or the leader of your group will need to create a “My Kirchentag” account.
    Create an account now.
  • After you have created a “My Kirchentag” account, you will receive an e-mail asking you to verify your account. Please click on the link provided in the email and then you will be able to begin your registration.
  • Start your registration. The following fields must be filled out: street address, postal code, city, country, type of admission pass, accommodation preference, and whether or not a visa is necessary.

If you already have a "My Kirchentag" account, but forgot your “My Kirchentag” password or username, we will be happy to send you a new one.

Visa Questionnaire

Several days after completing your registration you or your group leader will receive an e-mail with an important visa questionnaire regarding your contact information and your ability to finance your visit to Germany. Read through the form, check the accuracy of your details, fill in the blank fields and sign that you agree with the closing statement regarding your ability to finance any expenses that result from your visit in Germany.

Only when Kirchentag has received this form will you be able to go on to the next step.

Invitation Letter and Health Insurance Certificate

After you have confirmed your contact information and ability to finance your visit in Germany, Kirchentag is happy to assist you with your visa application by providing you with an invitation and health insurance certificate. These forms will confirm your participation at Kirchentag as well as guarantee that you have health insurance for the duration of your time at Kirchentag. Both documents should be presented to the German embassy or consulate on the day of your visa appointment.

The final letters of invitation and health insurance certificates will be sent in Spring 2017.
