How to get there.

There are many ways of going to Dortmund. We would like to help you to find the most comfortable one. However, please also try to choose the way that is the best for the environment.

The airports Dortmund (DTM) and Düsseldorf (DUS) are very well connected by public transport to Dortmund´s city center. Düsseldorf Airport is the biggest international airport in the region with direct flights in every direction. Dortmund Airport is a smaller airport with low fares airlines providing flights mostly to Middle and Eastern Europe and during summer touristic destinations like Great Britain and Spain. From Düsseldorf Airport there are multiple direct local trains (RE 1, RE 6 and RE 11) and the S-Bahn line 1 which connect the airport with Dortmund in about one hour. You can reach Dortmund Airport with a direct bus that takes aprox. 25 minutes from Dortmund main station or via the train station Holzwickede within 45 minutes. Your Kirchentag pass is valid from Wednesday 19 June and you can use it for your arrival, as long as you have received it in advance. Otherwise, you will need to buy a ticket.

It is easy to get to Dortmund via Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Germany´s biggest airport. Please consider that you have to book a long-distance train ticket or bus ticket if you land in Frankfurt.

The website of public transport in Dortmund (and the fare zone which is expected to be included in your tickets) is available in English as well. Please note that, for an unknown reason, Dortmund´s public transport is not available on Google Maps! If you search for a connection within the city, always use the VRR journey planner or the VRR APP (available for iOS and Android).

The fare zone borders on the Netherlands (Arnhem, Nijmegen, Venlo and Roermond).

Important to know:

You can use every regional train, bus, tram, U- and S-Bahn (subway and rail rapid transit) within the VRR-fare zone – but the long-distance trains (IC or ICE) are excluded.

Please come to our International Centre (Strobelallee 45, 44139 Dortmund, nearby station: Westfalenhallen) to get your tickets (if not been sent before). This is the meeting point where international guests and their hosts can find help during Kirchentag - you cannot find us in our office (Kronenburgallee 7, 44137 Dortmund).
